In 1830 Arthur Barolet founded a small family business in the Burgundy wine capital of Beaune, but it was known by a limited circle of connoisseurs for the quality of its wines. His grandson, also named Arthur Barolet, gave up medicine in the 1920’s and left Paris in order to take over the firm of his family. His technique of selecting the wines was based on the two following criteria: the choice of powerful, structured and rather tannic young red wines which could age a long time in bottle; their breeding for an extensive period in oak barrels.
The majority of the wines known under Dr. Barolet’s collection was dispersed in auctions all over the world, namely Christie’s in London, Geneva and Paris, Sotheby’s in London and Heublein’s in New York.
Today, the quality and tradition established by the former family business is now carried out in the 19th century cellars of the company located in Savigny les Beaune. The extensive range of Arthur Barolet AOC wines are vinified and aged by a dedicated team using the best of their skills and modern vinification equipment to enhance the genuine character of each appellation and terroir.
