Metallographic examination of the as-polished cross-section revealed that the structure of the surface layer consists
of different size of type V and type VI graphite nodules with some fine secondary graphite particles. There is
intermittent rim of degenerated flake graphite particles at the as-cast and shot peened surface also (See fig. 1).
There is no evidence of flotation of graphite nodules or dross morphologies observed.
Metallographic examination of the etched surface revealed evidence of partial decarburization, which predominantly
associated with degenerated flake graphite particles (see fig. 2).
