According to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, the starting date of 1 May is chosen as to maintain national stability on the period of general election. The increase aims to maintain the sustainability of electricity supply, to improve the quality of services to the customer, to increase electrification ratio and to promote a fair subsidy allocation. The electricity tariff is of national concern from industries and household customers. However, if the electricity tariff is not increased, it will certainly increase subsidy that will create even painful burden to national budget. (AS)
