Hello Lynn and Yanji,
Notes from the conference call with Dawn Feng of Creo (with Sushama and Gener)
- Hoya stopped production of A189 immediately after receiving a quality claim from customer.
- Creo is not making any production now due to shortages of lens. They have a very bad yield, saying that they cannot even get 10pcs out of 10,000 pcs that they inspected.
- They saw this problem starting from January 2006 which is about the same time that Japan switched production from Nagano to Thailand.
- They are seeing wavefront error but this is combination of several parameters and cannot pinpoint exactly which parameter is causing the problem.
- They agree with Japan measurement that all pieces are within the specification. Creo has no intention of sending back the rejected parts, but they would like a speedy resolution to this problem. Creo mentioned that although the parts are within specification, they are close to boundary of the spec.
- Japan shipped 3000 pcs to Creo. We had this shipped 04/05. From this 3000 pcs, 600 plus pieces are from Nagano and the rest are from Thailand.
- Creo will get 10~20 good pieces from this 600 batch and will send the pieces to Japan as a standard lens. Japan will then make measurement and will try to duplicate this lens.
- Creo is planning to make a trip to Japan to bring the data and have discussion to resolve the quality issue.
