No attempt has been made here to use survey techniques to discover what proportion of Indonesians hold it, or parts of it, to be a true description of the Chinese as a group.
No doubt many would concede that at least some Chinese were exceptions to the general rule: Nonetheless the frequency with which the images appear in what Indonesians write and say about the Chinese, not excluding statements on 'the Chinese problem' by the government, way to counteract them, suggests that they are far from unimportant.
